AREA INFORMATION

Indian River County is centrally located on Florida's east coast, covering 503.25 square miles of orange and grapefruit groves, beaches, thriving retail and growing industry. It is the northern-most county of the four counties that comprise the "Treasure Coast." Rightfully called the Treasure Coast, this area is rich in history, natural resources, and the benefits of climate for which the Sunshine State is famous.

Our county is located about 190 miles south of Jacksonville, 70 miles south of Cape Kennedy; and 135 miles north of Miami, 65 miles north of West Palm Beach on the east coast. About two hours from Orlando, two and a half hours from Miami and Tampa. We are within three hours of 90% of Florida's population, with easy access to markets, yet far from urban sprawl, traffic and congestion. Major north-south highways are I-95, US Highway 1 and A1A. Major east-west traffic corridors are SR 60, SR 510 and SR 512.

In addition to its beaches and waters for swimming, scuba diving, boating, fishing, and other water sports, Indian River County's parks offer countless opportunities for recreation and enjoying the out of doors. Eighteen golf courses allow for all levels of play, and tennis facilities are widely available. Add Holman Stadium, the 6,500 seat is known as "old Dodgertown", Disney's Vero Beach Resort, and a host of museums, theatres, restaurants, night spots, and shopping areas and you have the makings for an incomparable quality of life.

In 2009, Indian River County, the City of Vero Beach, and Metro area had populations of 135,000, 17,000, and 130,000 respectively.
